Superstar cellist Jonah Kim returns for his third RS appearance in Mason Bates’ kaleidoscopic, whirlwind of a Cello
Concerto, surely destined to take a central place in the cello repertoire.
We open with Victor Herbert’s March of the Toys from his operetta, Babes in Toyland, a once-perennial on concert programs, then go to a work that might also awaken childhood memories.
Bach’s immortal Toccata and Fugue in D minor as orchestrated by Stokowski. (Do Micky Mouse and dancing hippos come to mind? Good!)
Finally, we’ll turn the evening into a rousing fiesta with
Marquez’s Danzon No. 2!
