  • Alberto Ginastera Harp Concerto
  • Johannes Brahms (arr. Peter Klatzow) Symphony no. “5” (String Quintet Op. 111)

Redwood Symphony is thrilled to present this concert, as well as the following one on April 18. Both concerts feature works that are not very well-known but are masterpieces of wide-ranging styles. The concert opener by rising star composer Gabriela Ortiz is dynamic and the composer’s every new work is eagerly awaited internationally. I’m delighted to welcome back stellar harpist Anna Maria Mendieta, playing one of the most formidable and show-stopping works in the harp repertoire. Mr. Klatzow’s beautiful arrangement of Brahms’ late string quintet is consistent with Brahm’s idea: he considered this his embryonic Fifth Symphony. Come judge for yourself!
