Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 1786 comedic opera “The Impressario” (Der Schauspieldirektor, K. 486) depicts the collision of personalities that takes place when high-spirited singers are gathered for a stage production. The overture depicts this with competing orchestral voices trying to gain primacy over the others.

When Mozart "finished" his Concerto No. 26, K. 537 in 1788, large portions of the score were left without notes for the pianist's left hand. The earliest printed edition, released after Mozart's death, contained a clumsy completion supplied by the publisher. The shortcomings of this version prompted several other completions of the piano part including this one, written in 2010 by the Palo Alto-born composer and pianist Timo Andres.

Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C major, Op. 21 serves as a bridge between the Classical symphonies of his predecessors Haydn and Mozart and Romantic symphonies, where greater harmonic and dynamic expressiveness come to the forefront.
