Performance Opportunity: Principal Harpist
Redwood Symphony, an all-volunteer community orchestra that rehearses and performs at Cañada College in Redwood City, is looking for a principal harpist. This group is known for its innovative and ambitious programming that often features world premieres of new compositions. Under Founder and Music Director Eric K, the orchestra has performed two complete cycles of the Mahler symphonies as well as major works of Stravinsky, Bartok, Copland and Mason Bates. Alex Ross of the New Yorker has referred to Redwood Symphony as one of the hidden finds of the musical world.
This position would be a wonderful way for an accomplished student to become familiar with important repertoire that is seldom done by avocational orchestras. Because there are no paid members of the orchestra, there is a real feeling of community and joy that extends into their performances.
Redwood Symphony has eight concerts a year including a summer concert and a wonderful Halloween concert for children. All rehearsals (Wednesdays 7-10) and performances (usually Saturdays at 8 pm) take place at Cañada College on the main stage. All inquiries should be directed to Eric K: maestroek@sbcglobal.net. Again: This is for love, not $!
